Maerklin z gauge diesel locomotive

Help! I have an old 1973 vintage Maerklin z gauge 0-6-0 diesel locomotive. It will not run. What can I do to get the locomotive to run? It has the older three-pole motor (I understand new Maerklin locomotives have the new five-pole motor).

I find it difficult to imagine a Maerklin locomotive NOT WORKING.

Thanks for your help!

Well, in 1973, Z scale was pretty new. Something that small isn’t easy to repair… I wouldn’t try if it were me.

I have a Marklin 2-6-0 steam loco (3-pole). I have noticed an odd behavior. After I run the loco in one direction (forward) and then stop it, it won’t run in the forward direction again. Run it backward, very briefly, stop, then run forward again.

My guess, the 3-pole motor comes to rest an ‘electrically/magnetically neutral’ position, so it won’t move --very weird.

If that doesn’t help, then the usual: lubrication; try a mutli-meter to check electrical circuit.
