Magazine article on EMD La Grange plant

I was at another modeler’s layout for an operating session a while back and we were discussing the EMD plant in La Grange where he used to work. He brought down 3 issues of a magazine (not sure which one) which each had part of an article on the plant and how a lot of the locomotives were made. I only had time to read the captions on the photos, but would like to get copies of the magazines so I can read the entire 3-part article. Anyone know what I should be looking for? Does this information even sound familiar to anyone?

I am thinking that what you are looking for may be in the Railroad History, No. 226, Spring/Summer 2022. Two articles and a chronology by Preston Cook covering the rise and fall of the Electro-Motive Division’s diesel-locomotive plant at La Grange, Ill.

That is correct. There is also an installment of ‘Inside EMD’ from 2018, which those of you with access to JSTOR can read:

Before you start hunting copies of the issues (as I recall RLHS is long out of back copies of at least one of these, perhaps all by now) Preston Cook has donated much of his materials collection to the Barriger library, where it is being scanned and put up to see (on the photo site Flickr) at a rapid rate. The progress of this donation was covered step by step with links on RyPN and here is a finding aid to get started:

— and if you really want to immerse yourself in EMD photos and more, visit the Barriger Library at Flickr and familiarize yourself with browsing the albums within.

There are thousands of valuable photos in the Cook albums alone. The Barriger Library at Flickr hosts 60,759 photos to date. You can browse for hours here!
