Magnet, under the track uncoupler

I have aquired quite a few of the Bachmann under the track uncoupler magnets. I mount them with the double sided tape and replace the steel plate, and nothing happens. I have taken them out and tried it again, and still nothing. I am using Kdee’s. If take the steel plate off, then the magnet works, but does tend to grab some of the metal wheels and trucks. Has anyone got an idea on how to make these work?

Thanks,

I use Kadee “under the track” magnets on passing tracks, yard tracks and industrial spurs. I use the Kadee #309 electromagnet uncouplers for the mainline. I have never had trouble with the magnets. The metal plate should make the magnet stronger. I wonder if the tape is the problem. Why not try the uncoupling magnets with the metal plate but without the tape. With the Kadee magnetic uncouplers, I have to decrease the height of the subroadbed by chiseling out some of the wood. I use cord roadbed. The top of the magnet is flush with the bottom of the track.

I have one of the Bachmann uncoupling magnets and have no problem with it. I just laid it under the EZ-Track and didn’t have to attach it to anything.

Actually I have used the Bachmann magnets cut in half (shorter uncoupling area) with no problems.

Silly question. Do you have the magnets oriented correctly. The magnets have a north and south pole. If you put the poles one way the magnets won’t work. If you turn the magnets 90 degrees they will work. Do you have them turned wrong? Remove a magnet, rotate it 90 degrees, put it back under the track. Does it work?
