I have a magnetic gluing jig that I got from Micro-Mark some time ago. Hadn’t used it until now as I had no good bench (do all bench tops come cluttered?) and the layout wasn’t nearly ready to accept structures.
When I opened the little package of magnets, they all seemed to be attached to the two pieces of metal each side of them like a sandwich. As soon as I started pushing them around to get the pieces tight and square, some of the metal plates came off the magnets. They do not appear to have any “residue” on them indicating that they had been glued.
Question is: Are they suppose to be attached, if so what would be a good adhesive?
Thanks for the responses. Sounds like I don’t have a problem. My guess is that they have been together so long that some of them are just “stuck” together and will come loose before too long.
It’s been a long, long time since I learned about this stuff in school, but I think those little steel plates are called keepers and are there to enhance the magnetic field.
If you play around with them you’ll see that you can actually stack on set on top of another which depending on what your gluing you may have to do that. It’s a pretty handy little gizmo my only gripe is the metal pan if you want to call it that is too small. I bent one of the end down to accommodate longer walls.
By moving the unattached plate around you can stand the magnet on edge at odd angles when you are glueing something at other than a right angle. The magnet will hold the plate securely at that angle.
Ah, okay! When I read your first post where you said the removeable side came in handy for odd shapes, I couldn’t figure out how that metal plate could do anything after it was removed. Now it becomes perfectly clear.
Absolutely no imagination at this end. When the weather warms up tomorrow maybe my brain will thaw.
Hmmmmm
Those things look just like magnetic cabinet latches. I wonder if I have some of lying around my work bench.
