Needs some direction from the 470 club. Elsworth cant afford to fix it, and it needs to run the Pan Am as an extra to get some visibility after its finished Elsworth has very very limited “landlocked” trackage .Also the 470 needs to be stored in a climate controlled building with very LOW humidity. I would even circulate DRY air through the boiler when not in use.

Stubbert sounds like a typical butt-headed self-serving politician running his mouth. Like one of my former Commanders once said “If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem!”.

Rate of deterioration of any machine increases with time so to assume that it will only deteriorate a “little” if just left as is is rediculous thinking. Can Ellsworth based tourist railroad carry out restoration? Hard to say but well worth a try. Have them put funds in escrow in case they fail in effort and prohibition on scrapping.

Big dreams, little brains.

Great opportunity for Pan Am/PAS/NS to bring steam to the northeast part of their network. Fall foliage excursions in New England would be hugely popular, great publicity, and financially successful. There would be no problem selling out especially with the influx of new cruise ships coming into Boston and Portland in the Fall.

NS has the skills and facilities. All we need is the will.

Why does Stubbert want to keep the 470 in the park and let it further deteriorate rather sell it to an organization who wants to restore the engine for possible further operation? Fred Stubbert needs to pull his head out of his rectum.

Yeah Fred,
Keep the engine & let it further deteriorate and be of no use to anyone but the scrappers!
