Maintenance of a Post-War Lionel Scout

Good morning from the steamy East Coast,

i recently acquired a post-war Lionel Scout, an 0-4-0 with road number 1062. I pulled out the chassis to oil the gears and wheel axles, and noticed that there is a wick leading into the motor. I don’t want to start pulling that apart, but other than the parts list I can’t find any info on what to do with it. I suspect it’s for oiling the internal parts of the motor, but want some advice on how much oil I need to put on it. Thanks!

Enough oil to wet the wick. I have a bottle oiler and anything with a wick just gets a good squeeze. Unless you feel lucky or brave don’t open the plastic motor.
