making decals

i have bought a epson color inkjet printer cx 6600, been trying to print on decal sheets with it, was able once to print on a white decal, now when i try it the ink beads up on it, however if i try it on the clear sheet it prints okay with the same setting. The above sheets are the ones that testers sells, the white sheets by micrscale bead up also. I have tryed differnt setting, glossy paper, plain paper photo paper. what works for the clear sheet is for paper durabrite ink glossy photo paper, and for quality is photo. Any body else have what works for them or maybe some differnt setting?

it sounds like you might be inadvertantly using laser decal paper in your inkjet…i have experienced this…i buy my paper from bel-decal i think the address is beldecal.com…i dont experience this any more…if you already have bought much of the paper you re using, you might try rubbing it with ground pumice or something similar to kill the gloss and give the paper some ‘tooth’. Another dodge might be to try dullcoating the paper first. to give a similar ‘rougher’ surface.

no its injet paper lest for the clear, the white should be also, as they where bought in the same package, though will try the dullcote, and see what happends, and will check out that website. thanks

I’ll bet what happened is that you got fingerprints on the decal paper. I had the same experience, I was covering large areas with dark color and noticed ‘flaky’ spots near the edge. This was on a sheet that had been lying in the open for several weeks, and had been handled alot. So I went and bought a set of brand-new sheets, avoided directly touching the ‘print’ area - and it came out fine!

If you can find any of those disposable latex ‘exam’ gloves [that medical people use], wear them while you’re handling the decal paper.

Good luck!

well its not fingerprints on it, also dullcote did not work, i think the white pare is the wroung paper, have to give the place i bought it from a call.

after much heartache, i was able to print it on the clear decal paper, after painting the model white, it did not turn out as good as i was hoping for. a picture of it, and the real one are below, i did not want to plate over the windows on the model, so they are not a exact match. what you think?

thats a great job…keep at it… i have never tried following a photo for specific weathering…so did i understand you got the decal thing sorted out ok?

yes and no as to getting it sorted out, i never got it to print right on the white decal paper, it just beaded up, i belive they sent me the wroung decal paper.
Also the colors did not print out just right, not sure if because i printed on clear paper or not, or if it was the ink. I am going to try a differnt brand of paper, and see what happends, you cant see it in the picture but the back side of the cupele(spelled wroung i know soory) i did not have enough paper to finish, also had a smal probelm on the back side of the ink did not stick to the paper in a few places. Over all it was a good frist try, learned a lot, so i hope next try goes better. will keep you all posted as to what i try next.
