A vote for tap ins here… (aka suitcase connectors). Some love em, some hate em… I love them…
just my 2 cents…

chateauricher, if you are going to go the barrier terminal strip route, try here for the best varieties and considerably lower prices than Radio Shack: http://www.mouser.com/index.cfm?handler=home
I am using the ones from Mouser for the terminal strips on my Torti. They are excellent. Do a search under “barrier terminal blocks” and you will find the ones most suitable for hobby use.
Good luck!
When the time comes to wire my track I plan on using t-taps and male spade connectors. I learned to use them from one of the top ten aftermarket automotive electronics installers in the nation, specifically on a remote start system.
The tap is sized to the bus wire and the spade would be sized to the feeder. Add a little dielectric grease and you have a secure, water tight connection.
Price wise would probably fall between scotchlocks and terminal strips.
Thanks for the tip, Ray. But I know of an electrical supply source here that my LTS directed me towards as having the best prices in town. I’m planning to check their prices out tomorrow. I got my wiring there, as well as electrical switches, solder and soldering iron.
Radio Shack seems to have all but disappeared in this part of Canada. I’m not even sure where there is one still open. Their prices do tend to be ridiculously high so I had not planned on going to them anyway. The only problem with ordering online is the shipping costs (plus currency exchange and customs duties if I order from outside Canada) which can often push the total costs above what local retailers charge.
