Making Water

Can anyone give me some ideas of who makes the best product for making realistic water? My layout will have a large meandering river running through it. Also what is the best way to seal the river bed so there is no leakage from the water making material i use?

Thanks,

MOSEMAN

I poured varnish, gloss medium at the plywood. And I used at the fascia some tape.

It needed a few weeks to dry.

Here’s another project.

I’d avoid using the Woodland Scenics ‘water’. Even though it looks great when you first apply it, it shrinks over time…

I use Envirotex or matte medium. You want to first spackle any imperfections in the wood where you want to make a pour. then paint it a very dark almost a black green color. Then feather in a shoreline with a small paint brush or airbrush using tans, yellows, and light greens. Then pour either the envirotex or matte medium in thin layers. Let each layer dry between pours…chuck

I use Envirotex and gloss matte medium. Here’s a picture of the result:

I cover the details of this scenery building technique – and more, in my Scenery Forum Clinic.

Clark, I noticed that you mentioned “spackle any imperfections” a couple of times before and I was curious as to what the spackle was for exactily. It is for leaks? I’m just about ready to pour myself and I want to get it right.

I’m spitballing here, but I think it’s so that there is an even surface for applying the water products, right?
