Anybody try to add more pick-ups to this one?
Not a bad running, not great, but not bad. Put a DH123 decoder and trying to find some happy settings for it. Needs some help in looks, lights are toy like and the cab is 100% decoder. Going to look in the Steam Encyclopedia for some pictues.
Which one of the Mantua 0-6-0’s do you have? The one with a separate tender? Older version with the 5 pole open frame motor? Diecast metal boiler? Saddle or side tank version?
George;
Do you have a 0-6-0 (with tender) or 0-6-0T (tank engine) ?
The 0-6-0 has even driver spacing, the 0-6-0T does not.
One method to add additional electrical pickups is to put a piece of circuit board under the locomotive, with sliders soldered to the circuit board. The sliders can be track sliders like Tomar’s or ones that rub against the drivers. The sliders should be phosphor bronze, which is hard and springy. Make sure you don’t short things out, and give enough length to the sliders so that they are springy and not rigid.
Sorry, 0-6-0T Mantua Classic 2004 or 2005 vintage. Pickup is the 2 frount wheels only, decoder is in and working fine.
Like the slider idea.
Was looking into matching the existing system by ordering some spare parts and rotro fitting it.
I am making all the frogs powered starting today. Got 4 done, 121 to go. That may cure it. I am looking into changing the lights and adding some other details to it.
Thank you for the answers.
If these haven’t changed much since the old days, they have 2 wheel pickup on the one side with the wiper. The other side has all drivers grounded to the frame for the other rail pickup, so you only have one of the six drivers not picking up power. Since it’s one of the end ones, it will probably cause your stalling problem on switches with unpowered frogs. Adding a wiper to that last driver will probably cure that problem.
