What time of the year do everyones favorite manufacturer issue their catalog and what is the best or cheapest way to obtain one? I’m interested in possibly obtaining some train manufacturer catalogs, but I’ve noticed most are 2006 and I’d hate to ante up $10 for say a Bachmann 2006 cat if ther 2007 is coming out soon.

What is so good about the Walthers catalog? What month is the new Walthers issued? Does the Walthers contain full product lines for each manufacturer? I may be wrong but I was assuming that the individual manufacturer catalogs would have more detailed descriptions than the Walthers.
Some of the manufacturer catalogs may be more complete but most concentrate on just one area (i.e. just locos) like the new Athearn F unit catalog. BLI seemed to have one for their complete line.
I’m not so sure that companies are doing so many catalogs with most of their stuff listed online and limited runs. No sense in putting out a catalog when many of the items either will be delayed in production or sold out very soon after the catalog is released.
Walthers catalog is a very good compilation of most companies (Horizon excluded) and should give most of the details you would need to make a decision. It is usually released late in the year (October I think).
