MARCH 2015 COFFEE POT. 11 years running. Sweet ice tea and grits for the southern gents, coffee and donuts for the Yanks

Kevin you can use it as a debit card or a charge call only difference is how much they are charged for the sale to the store owner with that said you may want to check with your bank as it varies from bank to bank but it is still has only the security by your bank offers it still isn’t as safe as a credit card. using it as a credit card does not have the security of a credit card now some banks will cover you up to certain amount and if you ever see a unauthorized charge on your debit card notify you bank asap so they can freeze that card from anymore purchases

Bottom line call and talk with your banks so you know what is the policy for it.

The whole thing with the cards is that it is becoming riskyer and riskyer everyday, much less the even more applications for ipads, smart phones, etc… There are a number of changes coming about that are significant…

  • The newer cards that have a “chip” in them, require merchants to upgrade their card processing equipment. That is not a bad thing, but to show how much “confidence” the banks and industry is putting on the newer cards. If a merchant does NOT get the new equipment, the card company will pass ALL fradulent uses of the card back to the merchant, AND any subsequent liability. It is also interesting to note that the card does NOT have to be inserted by a machine/reader. It can be scanned as well at a distance.

We have been accepting cards on our website since 2003, have had a couple of fradulent transactions but not bad. When a card is processed the transaction is encrypted for security, we have 12 levels of encryption done on our transaction. One of the ways of measuring how secure your website is, is by monitoring the number of times a transaction “pings” from the initiation to the completion. This process is the routing of information from the initiation point to the customers bank. The transaction can bounce back and forth across the US as many as 6 or 7 times. All this electronic activity is where hackers get access. There is software available that will look for data strings of 16 characters then 4 characters and download them. That ends up being the card number and expiration dates. Card processors have added the CVC codes and Zip Code requirements to in an attempt to further ensure correct usage. All this is well intended but for every level of security added someone is already working on breaking it. Needless to say the frequency of card usage is directly proportional to identity thefts, and fradulent charges. For that reason we o

Tks,

I guess it is best to go back to cash. I do not do any direct bill pay either for the same reasons. I send checks and they get them in the mail no matter how much pressure they use to try to get it the other way. Now just to get the wife to understand.

Kev,

Thats exactly what we do. Good luck with the wife.

As most of you know there is in-state and out-of-state tuition at our major universities. The majority of the time there is a huge difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition. If a foreign government pays your way to college in the states, they pay out-of-state tuition and the college is very happy to take their money. So, who do the colleges want to see on their doorsteps? Anyone with a handful of money! Have you ever heard anyone from a foreign country taking basket weaving courses? Of course not! You see them in the engineering, medical and science schools.

Follow the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I still pay with checks as well. Don’t trust online banking at being secure. Use only 1 credit card for online buying.

Jim, we have three cards, all older than 20 years old. One for me, one for her, and one I got in 1976 from Sears. I use mine most of the time but I do make sure to use her’s to keep her credit rating up there. (just in case I drop off) Now and then I will put something on the Sears card to keep it active. At any rate they always get paid off in full when I get a statement. They hate that. [;)]

First day of spring, so I took the cover off the AC unit. [(-D]

Evening all!

Good day today. Rained all day. Light rain at my house but heavy where it feeds into our areas main water supply. Sorely needed. We need about another 10 in of rain.

[tup] Don B - good to have you back!

I use credit cards for everything. I have different cards for different functions - travel, food, on-line orders, and general household. This way I can figure out where the problem occurred. My card issuers of the cards I have maintained are good on monitoring activity and I also watch 'em like a hawk. Between us we have nipped the attempts to misuse the cards. For all cards one is only liable for a limited amount if the card is compromised. Pay them off every month.

Banks - I realized today I was off by a week regarding York. It is a week later than normal this year so I can do the event with my sister and BIL the 18th AND York the following week. [yeah]

Have a great evening all!

Hello there,

We got about 6 inches of heavy wet snohio today. Stuck to the roads just enough to make driving nasty for a while. By mid afternoon they were fine. It’s settled down to about 3 inches on the grass now.

Fish Fry was down tonight, only 687…The line stopped at 6:30. Now relaxing with a beer son left down stairs in the fridge while trying to my eyes open long enough to finish it and this post.

Mrs & I have 3 credit cards and a debit card. The debit is always used as credit. One credit card has a $1000.00 limit as it is used only for online purchases. It is rare that they are not paid off each month.

Roy…looking forward to seeing you at York. Maybe we can get together for dinner Friday night.

Well I think I’m gonna crash

Prayers for those in need

Good evening all,

Quiet day at work. Did not have to drive. Good thing as I was tired. One Indiana team will advance to Sweet 16 as Butler plays Notre Dame. All others are out. Lots of tasks ahead for the weekend. Have to do taxes. Spent time on phone with sister tonight. Gave her some advice on sending son to college. I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good night all. Long days and nights this week. First night I have had to sit and watch TV. You are sure it was not basketball. For sure.

Don, go bury your money in your back yard. OH!!! You can’t do that in your back yard. Well, put it in a waterproof jar and throw it in the pool. BTRW: don’t watch that Knot’s Berry Farm video of the train. You might fall out of your chair and break something. [:O]

He’s out of his cast so he is getting smarty. [;)] Might just go out and visit him again. Guess I had better not. Bad luck he thinks. [:^)]

Picked on the old boy enough.

Off to bed.

Happy Saturday…

At work…and the aftermath of 6+ inches of Snowhizio…

Not much going on right now, trying to get over a sore throat and cold.

Of course, it’s my long work week and we have someone out on Monday

which means I’ll have to come in sick…again…

[angel] for those in need

No snow here but lots of clouds [suppose to be gone]. Hope to prune grape vines today. Way behind. Usually last of Feb. No weather to do that until now.

Later

Still snowing here in RI. UGH!

Morning all!

Cloudy and some sprinkles today.

Watching NASCAR and Sebring while doing odd things about the house.

Welcome to the 'Pot Harold [#welcome]

Have a great day all!

Good evening all,

Spent 4 hours today moving gravel that had been left in our neighbor’s yard by the guy who snow plowed our driveway. Raked some of it out, but used the shop vac to get the rest of it. Did taxes as well. ugh. Federal refund but owe the state. At least the weather was nice. I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

How about that NCSU!!! NCSU and UNC are in for the Sweet 16.

Cloudy and warm. Errands today. May go to the leke house tonight. Pack up the odds and ends in the “Ranger Barn”. Back tomorrow. Busy rest of the week.

Have a good week.

G’day All.

Pardon the absence, just been trying to stuff 20# in a 5# bag the last couple weeks. Had to bear some wrath from"SWMBO" several days, I would come in from yardwork an just sit down and immediately fall asleep. Oh well, still alive and most all of what I needed to get done is done so now I’ll slow down a bit. With as tired as I’ve been getting with the least little bit of exertion I’m a little concerned what the echo cardiogram will show on thursday.

Chief, Don’t matter who’s in the “Sweet 16”, UK gonna take it all ! [<:o)]

As part of our retirement the BetterHalf and I through our groups/clubs donate to Rady’s Children’s Hospital. This coming wednesday, the 25th, is a good day for charitable groups wherever there is a Jersey Mike’s Sub Shop. All the outlets on the 25th donate all the day’s receipts to local charitable groups across the country. Last year the San Diego shops donated slightly over $100k to Rady’s. So come wednesday if you have a hungar for a sub drop into your local Jersey Mike’s if there is one in your area. Pardon the shameless plug. [dinner] [tup]
