Märklin acquires LGB assets

Märklin, a model railroad manufacturer based in Göppingen, Germany, announced Thursday its takeover of Nuremberg’s Ernst Paul Lehmann Patentwerke and the company’s LGB trademark.

Märklin stated that future production of large scale LGB models will occur within Märklin’s production network.

Model Railroader will continue to report on this story as it develops.

…and we wait to see what Marklin found behind the doors in Nurmburg, and what will happen with LGB of America…[;)]

WHAT?

This can’t be, this simply can’t be. Will the products still be produced under the LGB name or the Marklin name? Oh this is simply terrible.

Cheese

Cheese, where have you been? To quote Jerry Garcia “What a long strange trip its been”

The Fat Lady has not only sung, she has left the building and the roadies are breaking down the set!

This insolvency has been going on since September last year, with other events going back almost 2 years or more.

You didnt know about the alleged rumors of cash flow problems at EPL?

You didnt hear about the now infamous “firesale” at last years open house where EPL apperently sold off the family jewels, namely the model train archives at apparently rock bottom prices ?

You didnt know that EPL allegedly transfered, sold, or gave (no one is sure what really happened) its trademarks, patents, and allegedly a great deal of merchandise and tooling to LGBof America shortly before the banks called in a loan on EPL triggering the insolvency proceedures?

Theres more too, alot more, just search the GR forum, go to Mylargescale.com or largescalecentral.com, do a search for LGB on the public or general discussion forums, and read up on it. Fascinating reading.

And that probably is why LGB USA has announced they will be producing their own line of train stuff in the near future.

Well we really dont know the full story, all this is alleged thru on line sources, the truth is that no one has stated what Marklin actually got in the deal other than the right to the trademarks and patents, did they get ALL of the tooling? what about the Chinese stuff LGBoA was making? Does that revert back to LGB now Marklin, what does LGBoA still have thats there to keep?, and what will the future holds other than Marklin restarting production in Hungary. Where LGBoA will get its drives and electronics for this new line is a question since the originals would logically be part of the EPL patents, wouldnt it? Lots of questions, no firm answers.

Yes…and it’s a Lawyers paradise too !!!
