Hi, I was wanted to know if anyone has ever seen an electric marx 400 steam locomotive
with a switch in the cab of the locomotive and if so are they rare? if anyone has any pics of this locomotive with the switch in the cab could you please post them?
I have about a half dozen Marx 400s here, some in poor shape, some in top shape, and one with a reverse unit. I can’t think of anything that Marx would have put a switch into their bottom of the barrel steamer for.
The Marx smoke units ran whenever the motor was run. The Marx reverse unit did not have a lcokout switch. I think that if there is a switch in the cab of a 400, someone must have put it there. I have quite a few Marx locos, from the basic 400 and 490s to the 666, 1666, 999 to the 4-6-4 1829. I also have a few of the diesels 80 tonners, E8s, none of them have switches on them.
I know the wind up locos had a lever in the boiler near the cab. I have seen a conversion of a wind up Marx steamer that had a motor and rectifer put into it. That may be what you have seen.
