Matching a Gondola Brake System in HO Scale

Another one for my Forum friends. Does anyone have a good idea of what I might use to match the brake setup shown here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/j7baoWVqjqzzodkY6 I am planning to model this car in HO scale and have no idea where to look. It is an SLSF prototype. As usual, any assistance that can be provided would be most welcomed.

See AAR standard S-475, “Hand Brakes”, then a contemporary Car Builder’s Cyclopedia.

I am not an expert on proprietary handbrake actuators, but this is a ratcheting-lever type, as seen on flatcars where a ‘wheel’ type could not be installed or would not clear. My guess is that you’d be best off scratchbuilding this rather than adapting a ‘thin line lever’ casting.

Not sure if they are still available, and possibly not a close enough match for what you want.

Good find, Bear!

Just a note, if you look at the lever, these are designed to be applied with your body outside the space between cars; you reach in and ratchet the lever from side to side which pulls up the foundation-brake chain.

What are your opinions on this part to fit the bill: Det Assoc - Brake Gear Sets - Hand Brake & Valve pkg(2) - 229-6238?
While it shows out of stock at Walthers, I have sourced a few on a secondary market.
I really don’t need 50 of them as with the other link mentioned.

Depends on how many gondolas you want!

With a bit of HO scale chain, that option looks a far better bet, IMO.

I’m just doing one. The prototype car is sitting on a siding on the BNSF (ex-BN,exx-NP) near my house.

What is currently looks like. I’m modeling it closer to what it would have looked like around the time of the BN-SLSF merger.
