Mayoral election endangers Cincinnati streetcar project

Shades of the 2019 election here in Ohio. Just when it looked like 3-C was finally going to get somewhere, voters here swept in a governor and a TEABagger majority who flushed everything Ohio passenger train supporters had been working for years to accomplish down the toilet. Nor it looks like history’s about to repeat itself, this time at city level.

Dem people in Ohio be ver’ strange.

They have that abandoned, never completed or opened subway system which would be (in spite of all of the utilities, block-ups, etc. currently in the way) relatively cheap, at least compared to building a new system from scratch. Plus, being grade separated, that would be much more safe than an at-grade streetcar they’re proposing.

Welcome to the world of Wisconsin…need I repeat the entire litany most rail passenger followers around the nation are already familiar with. Talgo is suing the Governor for failure to purchase the trains produced under contract…it will eventually cost us Wisc. taxpayers and we’ll have nothing to show for it!

Good news for Cincinnati taxpayers. Even with the money already spent and the money that may have to be spent getting out of contracts, it is still cheaper to get out of this financial boondoggle while you can rather than enduring years of payments for operating losses and capital needs.

Cinci is a second rate city run by a bunch of Republicans who don’t know or care that the population of the US ( and world) doubled in the last 40 years, and will double again even sooner. How wide will you make the roads and freeways, and what will it cost to acquire the land … think about it. I’m betting it will be a lot more than that trolley line would cost …

Cincinnati is known for making poor decisions over its transportation planning. But the biggest joke and waste of money has to be it oblong shaped I-275 beltway that has no benefit of mileage or time savings for travel whatsoever. Perfect example of something built to promote urban sprawl.

Smart Mayor, wise Council to cut their losses now. The tax payers will ultimately benefit. Good news indeed!
