looking in the newest issue Railfan & Railroad, i saw that the owners of the northern california shortline Mc Cloud Railway after calling it quits. the 17 miles of track Mc Cloud to Shasta will be retained for contined operation by another shortline operator and the rest of the line is scheduled to be ripped up within the year.
A couple of years ago, I rode the McCloud rails with my father in law on a speeder run. We rode from Berney California to the interchange with the BNSF and back to Berney. We had to be backed onto the same siding twice so that the Steam Dinner Train could come through. My Father in law also has an ATSF caboose that is being stored by the McCloud. That was a fun run.
