MDC loco kits

I recently ordered some old time hopper cars and this guy has some of the older MDC loco kits.

Interesting. I wonder how old and what kind of quality those are??

The description claims a can motor. If that’s true, they’d be late production. Somebody should Email and ask if they have nickel-plated drivers, which I think would have been included by that time.

Hmm…I seem to recall that MDC issued an upgraded ATSF 4-4-2 just before getting sucked into the Event Horizon. Anybody else remember that? ISTR it was reviewed in MR.

Excellant idea Autobus Prime. Email him and let us know.

This is from the vendor.

#s 430 and 440 have nickel silver drivers. The others are brass.

I have several of the older Roundhouse “Harriman” style locos, and they can be made into quite smooth-running models. The detail isn’t as good as, say, a Bowser kit, but that can be cured with either Cal-Scale or PSC castings. And as far as having brass drivers, that can be cured by adding Tomar pickup shoes to both loco and tender, turning them into smooth runners. They’re relatively simple ‘screwdriver’ kits as opposed to, say, the more craftsman-oriented Bowser kits, but they’re good models.

I’m hoping that Horizon will re-release these kits–they’ve served a lot of modelers who needed smaller steam for a lot of years.
