So I’ve been searching non-stop for the past 2 hours and can’t find anything on the Pan Am Railways (MEC) C40-8Ws that are Ex. CSX. I’m only looking because I want to know if at least one made it into the Pan Am Railways Navy Blue paint scheme, and since they had a small fleet of 20 C40-8Ws, some were sold to other railroads, 7898 is on the Active CSX roster I highly doubt it though since the Dash-8s arent elligible for a rebuild and CSX sided the Dash-8s.
Probably means it performed like a slug (the slimy thing in your garden, not the locomotive with just traction motors). That is, slow, weak, mostly lifeless.
As an additional note, not referencing Zug’s quip: it was apparently common practice on CSX to use road slugs preferentially as lead engine – for the same reason some GEs had a switch to restrict throttle to 7th notch on the lead locomotive only. It’s a quieter ride with lower fumes.
Notable differences are the lack of radiator fans/grills and exhaust. If I need to do any corrections, let me know,w and I’ll work on it right away. Note that it looks fairly similar to the AC40C6M-8 and is supposed to mated to a modern GE or EMD (at least I suggest it)
