Just wired an Atlas (HO #83) Remote Turnout snap switch. The switch casing got really hot, and deformed the plastic.
I’ve wired other switches, which are the same and have not experienced any melting. I assume the switch is bad. Has anyone experienced any similar issues with overheating or deformed plastic?
The control pushbutton may be at fault. The button should be momentary. The coils will overheat if the current flows to long. Use a good capactior discharge power supply with shorting protection. You will get better operation and save switch machines in the future.
The pushbutton switch you are using is defective and is keeping voltage on the switch motor all the time instead of only a pulse when you pu***he button. Throw that pushbutton away and get a new one.
Yes, the button should be returned for credit or thrown away but the switch machine itself may have survived. Don’t throw it away without checking it out. An ohmmeter will tell you.
