Member Rank?

Can somebody tell me what the member rank means and how do you get the stars and what they stand for? Thanks, Stephen

The stars come from the number of posts you have made. I don’t know all of the numbers, but I know one star is 50 posts, and two stars is 100 posts. Looks like you’ll be there pretty quick.

Greg

Over 500 is 3 green stars
Over 1000 is 4 gold stars
Over 2000 is 5 red stars

It’s a fun way to highlight how many posts someone has made. They have no meaning beyond that. Personally, I like them.
Enjoy

Good that this was brought up again.

Some posters in the recent past have misudnerstood this. Everyone here is on equal footing, whether a person has 1 star or 5 stars. The value here is the interaction between us as modelers: Sharing information, experiences, asking questions, and reading the wide variety of opinions.

As a teen, I was considered a little “odd” by my peers as it seemed like only one in 50 kids I met would have a strong interest in trains. Today, with forums like this modelers and railfans no longer need to feel isolated. Just smile and join in on the fun!!

Stars???..we don’t need no stinking stars!!!..

Stars?? Stars ?/ they make you the Leader, The Boss, The Seargent, The “Man”, now all you guys with NO stars, get back in line and no talking ! ! ! nyuck ! nyuck!

Heck, I’ll just post one so I get closer to a star! [:P]

You learn quickly,Grasshopper[:)].

Hey, guys, just remember stars are nothing more than big balls of gas. What does that say about those with 5.[#dots][:D]

Me too, but it is a pity they can’t find some way to measure the quality of content rather than just quantity of “stuff” good or bad.

says to me that i wouoldnt want to be traped in the same room with them… displace all the oxygen…lol

By the time you’ve hung around a while and read a bunch of posts, you start to form your own idea of who posts worthwhile answers.

One of the nice things about the forum is that you really never know where a good answer is going to come from. It could come from one of the more experienced posters, or from someone relatively new who just happens to have some first hand experience with the problem you’re asking about.

There are two great things about this forum: 1) the expertise of the folks who post here. Not a day goes by that I don’t learn a lot from the people here; 2) the sense of community. There are no “ranks,” per se. Folks post as much or as little as they like. But the number of marginal posts is, well, marginal. [:D]

Kalmbach provides a great service with this forum.

Try posting an opinion that might not be shared by a lot of folks, and see what happens. I’ve done that, and had some of the gasbags tell me I have no right to post my opinion because I don’t post often enough. I prefer to post only when I have something to say, rather than just to flap my keyboard at everyone.

Remember its just a post,no more than a click to get to or away from.I usually look to the big guys with all the stars first when looking for info but that doesn’t allways apply.I to normally only post when i think my view point can be usefull, weather or not the members feel the same way about the post well such is life.I think the rating system is ok as long as our egos aren’t included

I never even notice the stars by a poster’s name, I only read the message they posted.

That’s the main thing about using a forum.

Just think of the more stars like gray hair.[:D] J/K gang!
