I just read a big discussion on the MR forum regarding track cleaning. Many there insist that track treated with metal polish like Mother’s mag cleaner, MAAS, or something similar, keeps the track clean for very long periods of time with no need for track cleaning cars, scrubbing, alchohol wipe downs, etc. Wheels still need to be cleaned from what I understand.
Has any one in our 3 rail bunch tried this method of track cleaning and if so, does it really work? What’s the secret? How do the wheels get dirty if the rails are clean?
I tried it on a small circle of older tubular track, Jim, and it made everything very shiny too and seemed to work. I’ve too much track to do it all around…so just run a cloth over the track on the layout
David, this was based on an article in MR a while ago - search for MAAS cleaner. Some claimed it worked miracles. Others were concerned about impacting conductivity or leaving ‘something’ on the rails. Worked for me - but too much work to polish all the track.
