I was wondering if the Mi-Jack Translift Intermodal Crane for HO scale; actually works or is just a dummy to sit in the intermodal terminal on the layout.
The Walther Mi-Jack crane does not operate. It comes with magnets that can be placed in the ends of the boom, and metal strips that can be glued on the inside of a container. Then the crane will hold the container up in the air. But that’s all it does.
A European firm (Heljan?) offered an operating crane scene, there was a video online showing it in operation. But you pay for this ability, I think it was around $700.00!
Here’s my Mi=Jack with superdetailing:
Beautiful job on that model, Bob.
The Heljan unit goes for $750 regularly.

But, they are on sale now at Walthers for “only” $400.
Got me on that one, Bob. I thought it was real at first.

I have the Walthers model in HO scale. It does not operate and was extremely difficult to even put together.
