Michael McDaniel’s Southern Pacific layout

I think you captured the “look and feel” quite well. Very well done, and thanks for posting.

I don’t mean to be a critic, but I noticed at the beginning The cars were shaking around a little bit. Other than that, the whole thing is perfect. A good mix of locomotive roster, too.

Thanks for the compliments. It’s gratifying to have model railroaders take a look at my work after seeing so much excellent modeling in MR and other publications. Seems it’s time to get the wheel gauge out for some of those reefers. That’s the kind of feed back that is so constructive among fellow modelers. Thanks again.

Michael, I’m impressed with how beautifully your track flows through the scenery, which is also impressive. I would be interested in knowing if you hand layed your track and turnouts or if you used commercially available components (or a combination). Well done…you would never know this was in a 10 x 20 foot space.

I’ve never attempted hand laying track. I don’t think I’d have the patience for it. I used Walthers Shinohara code 83 track on the mainline and code 70 in the yards and spurs. I think that if you paint the track and ballast it carefully it looks better than hand laid. I also used Walthers curved and straight turnouts. I’m a sucker for S curves. I love the way trains look moving through them. Super elevating the curves where I could also helps the flow of trains. Thanks for your compliment.

Amazing

Well done

very inspiring

It’s nice to see how a well laid out diorama fits in to the overall picture, the long box car freight is very impressive…overall a brilliant set up cheers Baz
