Micro-Mark "SUPER BY"

Micro-Mark is selling a Bachmann’s EZ track layout along with a Locomotive with three cars powered by DCC. Is it worth the $'s?

That depends on how much they want for it, and whether the locomotive is a Spectrum version or not. If you’re referring to the Micro-Mark advertisement in the January issue of Model Railroader with a price tag of $179.95, I personally would not want it for a couple of reasons. First, I already have a better DCC system; and second, I already have a layout made with code 83 flex track. The advertising copy does not say the locomotive is a Spectrum, so you could end up with a lemon.

Thanks for the info. I failed to say that this would be a first set for my grandson ( and grandpa ). Yes that is the $179.95 ad in MR. I was just wondering if that is the way to start out!

Bachmann locomotives that are included in these sets are not that bad, and the Bachmann DCC system provided with it will control the basic functions (speed, direction, and headlight) of the locomotive, but the installed decoder will be limited to those capabilities only. If you want to add a different locomotive later on, the Bachmann DCC system may prove to be unable to handle it. But for a grandson, I guess it’s not a bad purchase – depending on the grandson’s age. Trains of htis type are usually rated for ages 8 and up.

Thanks cacole. Will watch for more info about first timers!!
