OK, I want to convert to magnetic couplers soon. I model N scale. I will replace the wheelsets, but I want to get the Dalman style trucks for Bachmann freight cars. Should I get something else (another style truck)? What about other manufacturers? Please help me. I thank all those who advise me here in advance.
the title of your post should answer your question. they are probably the best. there are several different types and they come with several bolster pins that would fit several manufacturers cars. accumates or easymates do not work well. they need a bit of speed to couple correctly or they will push the car around without coupling. i myself will be body mounting microtrains couplers on my cars and locos. i’ve also bought about 20 pairs of microtrains z scale couplers to body mount on some of my cars as an experiment. there was an article in jan 2007 mr about that.
what are dalman style trucks. i’ve never heard of them.
If you want to keep the trucks. Here is a option. Keep the trucks and if you can body mount the couplers. Box cars are pretty easy. Some guys are using the z scale body mounts, because they are closer to scale. Micro trains make numerous trucks, check out their web site to see your options. Then you would not have to use body mounts.
hope this helps

whoops didnt see the other post. So I guess I have to say waht he said.
Since Bachmann uses a screw for the bolster pin, you’ll have either cut the screw post off and dig out a hole for the bolster pin, or ream out the bolster hole in the MT truck so it swivels freely around the screw post, and re-use the screw.
I’ve done both, neither require rocket science, but a steady hand is useful…

I’d ruther not body-mount.I figured just re-use the screw.
You’ll need a jeweler’s rat-tail file to ream out the hole in the truck then. Just be careful not to take out too much.

Where can I get one? How much do they sell for?
Micro Mark sells a wide variety of modeler’s tools, but you could check your local Ben Franklin/Michael’s/AC Moore variant, or your local hardware. They’re usually not too expensive. I look for things like that in the $5.99 bin…
