I would like to try one of the the train simulator programs, and I would appreciate some advise. I am running Windows XP.
either will run on XP . MSTS is available very inexpensivly (someone said $10 on another thread) and can be added to with a huge amount of on’ine free and inexpensive routes , trains etc.
Trainz is more expensive but it’s still in publication and being actively update by the manufacturer all the time . they also have a huge online community of people adding new routes , trains etc. I’ve also seen people at train shows demonstrating Trainz
which is better ? kind of like asking which is better , N or HO ? everyone is going to have their opinion and when you add them all up you’ll probably be pretty close to 50/50 . MSTS is cheap , try it first , if you get hooked then that’s all you need to know , if you feel it isn’t all it should be , try Trainz
personally i spent a small amount of time looking at the MSTS demo before it was actually released and wasn’t very impressed . many people who like MSTS say you need to get some of the addons to make it a decent product . I also messed around with the Trainz demo when it first came out a few years ago . it seemed to be a lot more fun . so i’m not a big user of either
