Milw GP-20's

Anybody out there know what happended to milw GP-20’s? I know that most went to Chicago Central, but what did Illinois Central do with them? Are they still around?

There were 54 of them, rebuilt from GP9s. CCP got 18, the Georgetown Railroad in Texas got about 7, and I believe the Massachusetts Central got two.

I think the Wisconsin and Southern had a couple as well. Could be wrong on that one, though.

My guess is that since railroads are moving up in the world and buying those new “CRAP” GEs they have been scrapped. I am sure there are a couple of them moving around somewhere like the SD9s we have here in duluth. If you spot one you should take a pic of it. I am pretty sure there going to be completely gone in the next few years.

I don’t know about the GP-20s but I saw a MILW rd SD-40 in Ft. Worth a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t get a real good look as I was on the I-30 overpass going west. It was on a UP freight headed east.

I believe the Dakota & Iowa has a few of these.

I’ll be sure to get a pic if I can find one, regardless of its current color scheme. I like trying top track down bits of the Milwaukee - I love it when I find one!

I believe you are correct. I’ll see if I can find out for sure.

The GP9s D&I got were regular GP9 locomotives that had not been rebuilt into GP20s.

2 of the CCP GP20s went to Tacoma Rail.

D&I’s roster shows GP20 #3 as former BN2019

Several former Milwaukee GP20’s ended up on the Georgetown Railroad, and are now for sale.

I went to the Dakota and Iowa’s website and found that they have 23 GP 20’s on their roster, all of them are listed as ex-BN locomotives. There are 4 GP 9’s that are listed as having come from the Milwaukee Road. I am just wondering if these 23 GP-20’s, or at least a few of them were Milwaukee Road engines before the BN acquired them.

Do you have the website address ?
The rosters I have seen show only 2 GP20s on the D&I.
DAIR 3 was BN 2019, originally GN 2019.
DAIR was BN 2067, originally CB&Q 931

Nope. WSOR had some MILW SD7s at startup, and had a plethora of early GPs throughout their existence up until the “roster modernization” (i.e. GP38s/SD40s), but none was ex-MILW.

IIRC, Lycoming Valley has a GP20 or two…

Any website info for Georgtown Railroad?

The Dakota & Iowa’s web site address is http://thedieselshop.us/D&I.HTML

The first number is the road number, not the quanity.
D&I has two (real) GP20s, neither of them are the Milwaukee Road (almost) GP20s.
