Milwaukee Public Service Building (TMER&L Co Interurban Terminal)

Wow! Very impressive structure. Thanks.

Do you know if North Shore Line Electroliners used as a terminal?

NSL had a seperate terminal at the foot of the 6th Street viaduct which passes over the West End of the Amtrak Intermodal Terminal. They tore down the NSL terminal a while back and I think another building stands there now. It used to be right at the NE corner of the 6th Street intersection after the viaduct lands on the other side of I-94. That is where the Electroliners terminated.

They also had a rail connection to the TMER&L, I suspect they probably did use it for NSL charters out on the TMER&L lines but I also suspect they would stop at their own 6th Street Terminal first. I don’t think the Electroliners ever used that track but the other NSL cars did.

TMER&L had a freight arrangement with NSL. TMER&L used to bring Kohler fixtures down from Sheboygan and then turn the train over to NSL in Milwaukee which would bring it into North Chicago somewhere. I don’t know the details, just read it somewhere. I think the freight interchange was in South Milwaukee somewhere. I don’t think it used the tracks by the terminal.

The NSL terminal was fairly bare bones and also had a lunch counter in it I think. Saw some internal pictures once upon a time.

North Shore in 1946, both Shoreline and Skokie Valley routes to Milwaukee.
