i have searching all over the internet for pictures or maps of the Milwaukee Road Tacoma tidefalts yard to no avail, I find pictures of the round house area and i really need to know what the whole yard looked like for a little project I am doing. If you could help that would be great.

Try this. The City of Tacoma, WA, owns the place and TacomaRail operates it.

Kenno,
I think you are confusing the Tacoma Municipal Belt Line yard, which still exists with the MILW Tideflats yard which now is one of the Port of Tacoma’s intermodal terminals. Tideflats yard is no more.

Hello Mac … been a while!
I think I have the right place - but perhaps not. Official legal name (at least was) Tacoma Muni and may still be, but they are going by TacomaRail. Check out —
Their tariffs carry the Muni label “TMBL”.
At any rate, I am sure TacomaRail would be able to steer things in the right direction.
(Now that my curiosity is all fired up …)
yep the tideflats yard was ripped out shortly after abandonment in 1980.
Keeno,
I try to limit my comments to situations where I seem to have better facts than other posters. I was up to Tacoma a few months ago and almost got lost things have changed so much in the Port area. The Muni, TMBL, yard is still in the same place it was 30 years ago. Most or all of the former Tideflats Yard is now an intermodal terminal. That area is totally different than in the MILW days.

After that last message, I decided to check Mapquest Satalite Imigery, zeroed in on the Tideflats area, zoomed in and got a shock. Warehouses where the yard used to be with the balance as a “pig” yard. Ouch, I said. I hadn’t been down in that area (other than to drive past on I-5) since 1980-1985. From my vantage point, driving, it still looked like a railroad yard doing railroad yard things.
Oh, well. Thanks for the prod.
a copy of Milwaukee Road West by Woods it has a photo of the “west” end looking from East 11th Street bridge which went across the top of the yard right behind the “new” Tacoma station built in the 1950’s or check with the MRHS they may have some photos and track plans
