If I recall correctly, those Milwaukee Road units equipped with electronic engine bells rang at approximately the same pace as a conventional, air-powered bell and clapper.
Try to find videos of the WSOR E-units. They are equipped with a similar e-bell, and a polished brass bell under the engineer. When I run them, I usually use the e-bell, as it is over the fireman’s head, and not banging away underneath me.
If you get a chance to watch either part 1 or 2 of Vignettes of the Erie-Lackawanna from Clear Block Productions, they show a train with Milwaukee Road units in Marion, Ohio, and it has the actual audio with the electronic bell, which I think sounded awful.

The UP’s “heritage” units have a mechanical bell located on the engineer’s side perhaps 15 feet from the front.
Is this a unique feature of the heritage fleet, or are all new EMD’s dual bell equipped?
Low quality grab shot:
On newer EMDs (70aces and M-2s), the bell is normally located on the engineer’s side. So I’m guessing it only has the one bell.
