Detours will be running “north of the lakes”, through Ontario.
The Flint Sub will be busy!
Some detours have already happened onto the CN Flint Sub through Battle Creek, and Port Huron tunnel.
There was a CN double stack on CP’s Robert sub today. West bound
It is a long way out of the way to go through Michigan. How about using BNSF between Minneapolis-St. Paul and Winnipeg?
In this case, if the engineer hadn’t dumped the air, the entire train may have passed over the bridge before it collapsed. However, the engineer only has a moment to decide and I am sure he did what seemed best at the time.
Tough call there, Dump the air or hope the bridge holds for the whole train.

Is this on the same main line that eventually goes through Wisconsin, all the way to Chicago?
@ Adam Matyska - Yes, the former DW&P line runs to the Duluth/Superior area, skirting west and south of Duluth, and south of Superior, connecting with the former Wisconsin Central at South Itasca; these lines compose CN’s through route between Chicago and Winnepeg.
