Was curious about the spelling of “Tallahasee” mentioned in the article. As a native of Tennessee, I had never heard of that place.
A little research brought me to: Tallassee, was a ford on the Little Tennessee River in Blount, County Tn.
It was the area that was used as an aluminum smelter (Alcoa) about 1909 see below:
http://en.wikipedia.org.wikiCalderwood,_Tennessee#History
FTA: “… After purchasing the property, company engineers began using it as a base of operations. In 1912, a post office was set up in the base camp, which initially used the company’s name, “Alcoa.” Under engineer I. G. Calderwood’s leadership, a railroad line was constructed to connect the base camp with the Southern Railway terminal at Chilhowee (near modern Chilhowee Dam)…”
Good luck with the run. I wish I could come up and see it. I have been there with Mark Campbell about 10 years ago.
It would be nice if either you or the park itself gave some idea of where it is. I had to go to a map site to find it. Northeast of Minneapolis/St. Paul, if anyone else is wondering.
