MLW M630-W

I have in project to do an MLW M630-W of the BC Rail and I have a questions. What canadian cab can I use for the M630-W? It’s a cab of CN M420 or others?

For a GE Dash9-44 CWL I used a conventionnal canadian cab for BC Rail and CN Dash9 . Like this:

There are some pictures of those units HERE, but since I’m modelling the '30s in Ontario, I can’t help you with a choice from the cab models available.

You could always scratchbuild a cab if a suitable one can’t be found. Over 30 years ago, I built several like the one shown below:

Thanks! I will use a M420 canadian cab for the M630-W it’s the best for this job!

If anyone have other things about the MLW just show me!

The MLW wide-nose cab is quite different from the GMDD version. There’s been model kits of the GMDD version offered in HO, but not the MLW version. The M630W and M420W cabs are the same, both being MLW products.

MLW nose are shorter than GMDD and windows are slightly different (front and sides). I’ve kitbashed one from a resin kit year ago to fit a M420.

A little off topic, but I was leaving work last night and this was on the shop tracks (the 4643). I though it might interest you to see it

Capt Monkey, nice catch, but the cabs on these GEs are completely different from on the old MLWs.

Yes it’s true! I have an GE Dash9 of BC Rail the 4642! The sister of the 4643! [:)]
