After a lot of thinking about, and researching, the mini cam issue, I finally caved and ordered a Mobius 1080P HD Action Camera.
If you have $100 to spare, this is the mini cam for you. It certainly is for me.
C&O Fan has a thread about his experiences with mini cams, and that thread is what inspired me to buy the Mobius.
It measures 2 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 3/4" and weighs a mere 1 1/2 ounces. It requires a micro SD card. You can buy a 32GB card for $10, but I spent $20 for a 64GB card.
You need to format the micro SD card, but the on line manual explains how to do this and where to find the formatting software. No big deal.
The battery holds a 90 minute charge, and recharging is done with a USB cable connected to a cmputer.
The image is clear and bright. The movement is smooth, not jerky. The operation of this mini cam is simple and straight forward.
I recommend this mini cam to every model railroader. See your layout as the engineer sees it.
So, where is my video?
LOL
A word of warning. Be prepared to see what you did wrong as you built your layout. As soon as I clean up my messy layout, I will shoot some videos for public viewing, but not before.
I’ll be looking forward to your video, Rich. When I look at C&O fan’s recent videos with his Mobius they still look a bit soft to me even though he is uploading them at a higher resolution than before. I know all these cameras have a fixed focus lens and they do a pretty good job, especially for their size, but the videos he has demoed seem to be a bit fuzzy to me.
IF I had not invested in a Contour ROAM2 about a year ago I would definitely be asking the UPS man to bring me a Mobius.
Ed, I will try to post a video today and let others judge. I didn’t notice any fuzziness on C&O Fan’s videos nor on my own videos, but I may have overlooked any technical flaws in my giddiness over seeing things from the engineer’s perspective. [(-D]
LOL…It’s amazing what a camera pic’ or video will find. When my Son took this pic’, He did not know the caboose had one wheelset off the tracks and I did not know, one rail was higher at the insulated joiner in the grey ballast section, never encountered a problem there.
Last year at a show I saw an N Scale train with a cam but just looked for a minute because I was short on time. Would that have been the Mobius Action Cam you guy’s are talking about and would it fit for N Scale Engines and through tunnels or was it possibly another brand?
Your post here has sparked some interest for me in trying it for my new build. Doug
