Model Power N scale USRA 4-6-2 light Pacific steam locomotive
I RECENTLY PURCHASED THE MODEL POWER 4-6-2 STEAM LOCOMOTIVE FROM A VENDER AT A TRAIN SHOW. THE PRICE WAS DISCOUNTED TO 100.00. I HAVE NEVER OWNED ANY MODEL POWER LOCOMOTIVES,SO I DECIDED IT WOULDN’T BE THE FIRST BIT OF MONEY UNWISELY SPENT. THIS IS ONE OF THE NICEST RUNNING STEAM LOCOS I HAVE SEEN FOR THE PRICE. I HAVE PULLED 15 FREIGHT CARS ON LEVEL TRACK AT VERY LOW SPEEDS. I LET THE LOCO RUN FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES WHEN I FIRST GOT IT. SINCE FIRST RUN IT ALWAYS STARTS EVEN WHEN SITTING FOR DAYS. I SHOULD ADD THAT I BUILT MY MODEL RR FOR PERSONEL AMUSEMENT AND DON’T SPEND TOO MUCH TIME WORRYING ABOUT CORRECT TRUCKS AND THE NUMBER OF RIVETS ON THE TENDER.
Though beautifully detailed and painted I am experiancing poor running. The model I purchased in March of this last year runs hot to the touch, is noisy and bogs down after 20 minuets or so of running. I will be returning it to the manufactuer for repair or replacement. I have also noticed the curves tighter than 11" radius bind the drive wheels. I will be replacing the tight radius curve with a softer radius. Hopefully, I will have my replacment engine to run on the new curve.
Recently purchased MP Pacific, and initially was concerned due to what seemed to be poor electrical pickup, alot of noise, and some extreme heat coming from the firebox (unless this was a new level of realism!..). After about 20 minutes of break in however, the problems worked out and since the engine has performed flawless. Pulls 20 freight cars and a full set of 7 con-cor steamlined budd cars with ease. Apart from being a little noisy (esp. compared to the LL/Proto Berkshire) it is a good performer and was a good buy.

I bought one recently, and am very happy with it. Runs very well at slow speeds. and will pull a reasonable ammount of cars. The only things that could be better are the moulded on handrails (need to be freestanding to compeate with other premium locos), and the whine of the motor at higher speeds. all in all a very good loco…Mike
