Is there a web site out there where Modelers can pick and choose a Screen saver? Such as a Steam Locomotive or a Diesel pulling a Train. Thanks. Allan.
If your computer has Windows XP, there is one built in that can work through images on your computer. That’s what I have, mostly my own photos, not all models though. The photos come onto the screen in different ways and you can adjust the timing, length, etc.

What can I do with windows 98? I just got a home computer, and still haven’t figured out a screen saver.
NMRA had a calender screen saver, I downloaded last year. It was on www.nmra.org
Here’s a popular prototype website that you might like. It has pretty decent CSX and NS themes and screen savers.
Click on: http://www.alabamarailfan.com
Enjoy![:D]
I’m not up to how to do Sceensavers (moving things to refresh your screen), however for fixed Wallpaper (Desktop) images, click along this path: Start to Settings to Control Panel to Display to Background to Browse to C Drive to My Pictures (or whatever folder in which you’ve stored interesting photos), select photo and click Apply.

Yes like above!
and if your want a nice BNSF pic type BNSF train at Yahoo.com and then find a picture you like… click on it… it will bring up a bigger pic usually! and the right click on the pick! a menu will pop up scroll to the save option and save the pic to any folder you like !
you can also download webshots. It is a free download. You can then search through the thousands of train photos to download, or use your own photos from your computer. Its real easy to use. Its the one I use. IF for some reason you get tired of trains, (cant imagine that happening) web shots also lets you categorize by picture type. the address is www.webshots.com.
Here’s where the Web comes in handy. There are a lot of freeware savers out there, including do-it-yourself software. Try:
http://www.freesaver.com/tools01.htm
Or google “Freeware photo screensavers” (without the quotes, to catch all of them) and get about1.67 million of 'em. [:)]
I tried some of those free screen saver sites and got loaded up with spyware BIG TIME. That animated smiley face site nailed me too.
There’s no such thing as a free lunch!
My old Windows 98 machine uses a freeware screen saver I downloaded called gPhotoshow. Try googling it. I’ve had no problems with spyware or any of those other insipid internet leeches. You can have it call up photos in any one or combination of directories on your computer.
…actually, you are wrong. One can get a free lunch here in Calgary at the Mustard Seed (Drop in centre for the homeless). Its hot, free and good…from what I hear.

And they don’t make you listen to some kind of religious sermon or worse, a time share pitch???[:D]
Like said above. Download WEBSHOTS. It’s free and you can download any train picture and all kinds of MRR pics. I have 100 or so killer shots of just BNSF engines pulling all kinda trains. I switch my desktop every few days. I am using Windows Vista. if someone wants to know how to do this using Windows 95,98,XP,VISTA just send me an email. it’s really simple.

I advise against using screensavers that use pictures. they cause the hard drive to run continuously to pull them up and as in my case many people have worn out their hard drive. This is a big problem when it happens for numerous reasons.
I guess I have one of the neatest screen savers around and it’s so easy to obtain.
I loaded Windows Plus onto my computer a couple of years ago. Doesn’t take up much memory at all. One of the features that’s included for screen savers is the My Pictures Slide Show. It takes the photos or pictures that you’ve downloaded into your “My Pictures” folder and uses every single one of them as part of the screen saver.
I have over 500 photos that I’ve downloaded from: Railpictures.net, this forum, the Fallen Flags website, and various other sources. When the screen saver on my computer comes on, there are plenty of prototype and model shots to see. My wife, whose not into trains, even enjoys watching them.
It’s possible that a number of you may already have this feature installed on your computer, but you may not even be aware of it.
Peace.

That’s why I have two hard drives. I have several photo show screen savers and they’re all set up to retrieve photos from my D: drive. So what if it wears the drive out. I can get a new one for $40.
http://polarexpressmovie.warnerbros.com/ is an easy way to get a screen saver! Go to downloads & they have a bunch of screensavers!! (Grandkids love the movie & I use one for my screen background!) Most other movie sites have similar downloads - there must be more trains movies out there![:D]

Many techs say that it’s the starting up and shutting down that kills hard drives and puts more stress on them, not continuous running. My HTPC has been running pretty much continually for 4 years and have only lost one drive and it died just a year after I bought it. The C (40gig) has been running the whole time and 2 200giggers are 3 years old. I recently added a 500 g Maxtor (we’ll see how long it lasts, my other drives are all WD).
You can store your desktop wallpaper pix in: C>Windows>Web>Wallpaper, they will then show up in Display Properties>Desktop by default.
I used to run screensavers that sourced the pictures from my hard drives, but I realy don’t run screensavers at all anymore as VGA screens and LCD screens built in the past 4 or 5 years don’t have an issue with “burn in” anymore.
I use My Photos. I can save pics in My Photos and there is an option to use them for screne savers. my[2c] Mike
