You can buy back issues direct from MR, check out the website.
Are there any other ways (like from bookstores)? I have no credit card or any of that and don’t like to pay for stuff in a way that I cant just hand cash to the clerk and be done with it all.
My LHS(back in Danbury)kept their unsold issues usually longer than most retailers did with mags(I was actually in that business nearly 30 years ago). A bookstore would return unsolds asap when the next issue arrives as they are company run and couldn’t handle holding onto issues from hundreds of different titles. That’s why I subscribe.
check your local train shows , there’s often a dealer or two with boxes of old magazines . since you know exactly what you’re looking for you might be able to resist the temptation to just buy everything you don’t have already [:)]
No credit/check card does tighten things up a bit. Try your LHS, by all means, then if no luck on that front, try Kalmbach. They’re quick and efficient.
That issue is a little too recent for my favorite online site to have it, but I’ve bought lots of MR, RMC, and a few Mainline Modeler magazines from www.railpub.com, who advertise in MR. Paul has lots of magazines and books and it’s worth visiting his site! Since I’m retired, I don’t want to deal with credit card companies, but about ten years ago I wanted to order some O scale steam loco drivers from England, which is an even bigger hassle! A teller at my bank told me about Visa’s Cash&Check Card (that’s the way they spell it), and I had the card within a week. My checking account is debited, so there’s no monthly fee or interest to worry about. (Funny thing is, after buying some dandy “shell-cast” iron drivers from Walsall Model Industries, inWalsall, UK, I’ve since been informed that I cazn’t use my check card internationally!)
I don’t know if Railpub accepts personal checks, but it would be worth checking out his site.
In New York State, we can buy prepaid credit cards at convience stores for $20, $40, $60 & $100, just like phone cards, they’re prepaid, so no credit check, but I do believe you have to be 18, (proof of age). These are ideal and annonymous for those rare credit card purchases. PayPal offers one-time purchase cards as well.
Seems strange that you would pose your question knowing you did not have the means to order a copy online or by mail. How would anyone on this forum know what bookstores might be in your area? (and you do not indicate where you are) Why not check with them yourself? Give them a phone call or visit.
