Model Railroader eBooks for Kindle or only Nook? Conversion possible?

I really like the Model Railroader magazines, books and videos. There is so much information out there and all of the great articles, photos and how-to’s really help. I recieved the email that most of their book collection was available on a digital format now and I was super happy to hear the news. I went straight to the link as soon as I got home because there were some books that I really wanted to purchase but I am not a fan of having the print version that I have to store and carry with me. Imagine my dissapointment when I found that the only format available was on the Nook by Barnes & Noble. I have been a longtime Kindle reader and I also use my Mac for reading my digital material. I have followed some helpful links and I was able to put the Nook app on my Kindle Fire and on my Mac. My excitement was squashed as soon as I clicked on the link for the first MRR book that I purchased and the message “This title cannot be viewed on this device” on my Kindle Fire and “OOPS! This title cannot be downloaded on you browser”.

Does anyone know a way to purchase the files that are Kindle Fire friendly or how to download and conver the Nook files?

There are several converion tools available - Caliber is one of them. Search on ‘convert nook books to kindle format’. I have not used it, as my S5 smartphone can read kindle & nook books.

I prefer actually owning the real book for as long as I want, being able to share it or sell it to whoever I want, and not temporarily lease the digital info from some mega-corporation for as long as they’ll let me have it. But that’s just me…a bitter former bookseller for 25 years.

Yeah, I know. That was unhelpful. But it will be a cold day you-know-where before I ever own a bookstore-killer.

You should be able to download a kindle or nook reader to install on your device.

I have tried that but unfortunantly the only way to view the nook book it on a tablet/smart device or on a pc/mac with the Nook Study app. The Nook app for the Kindle Fire and the standard Nook Mac App do not support he format that is currently being sold. Thanks for the advice.
