Can’t hear anything?

Looks like a cool layout!

its BBBBAAACKKK!!!

Webcam time again! WOOT!!

This is fun just watching. I would love to work on my layout all day. I know its still work for you though. But what a job!

Hi Guys, Just wondering when the webcam went live?

Will this be a railroad based on the BNSF through Red Oak, IA?

Yippie!

Please guys, bring back the clock. It really helps us guys overseas know when to expect something. Thanks

Hello, and welcome to Season… 3? 4? …the NEW season of the MR project railroad webcam! Check in here at least once a day to see the progress we’re making on our project railroads this year.

That’s right, I said project railroadS. Plural. You’ll have twice as much chance to catch the staff in action this year, since we’ve actually got two layouts going! The Model Railroader staff is currently working on its project railroad for 2015, the N scale Red Oak layout. This tabletop layout features the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy in Iowa in the 1960s. Right now, we’ve finished the benchwork and are working on structures.

In the meantime, the Model Railroader Video Plus crew are continuing work on their On30 Olympia Logging RR, a shadowbox display layout featuring a unique vignette framework, a swiveling “offstage” sector plate, and interchange via car cassette.

And when other interesting things are going on in the workshop – like someone testing a diesel, working at the workbench, or filming an episode of “Cody’s Workshop” – we’ll try to point the webcam that way.

So, welcome to the new season! Keep checking in. And as always, happy railroading!

Here are answers to some webcam FAQs:

  1. No, there is no sound. Our webcam doesn’t have a microphone. And no, we’re not going to go buy a microphone, because sound would slow down the bandwidth of the video feed.

  2. You can pause the video, but you can’t resume from where you paused; you also can’t rewind. The feed is always live. Think of it as a window on our workshop. You’re seeing what’s going on at the moment you look in.

  3. If there’s nothing going on, look for the second hand on the clock. If it’s moving, the feed isn’t “frozen,” it just means there’s nothing going on.

  4. There won’t always be something going on when you look in. We have a magazine to work on (not to mention home lives). The best time to catch us working is between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Central time, weekdays. If you aren’t in the Central time zone, just check the clock.

  5. And no, we can’t record the day’s feed and edit it down to a “highlights reel.” The live feed does not work that way.

I believe that the Model Railroader staff is working on the On3 layout not the next year’s layout right now. I am enjoying watching David and Steve right now.

The clock and message board are back! Now we’re in business! And yes, this is indeed season 4 of MR webcam madness…

Track Plans?

Eric from Arizona: You’ll see the track plans when we publish the articles for each project. For Red Oak, that will be in our January 2015 issue, a little less than a year from now.

It would be cool if you could write on the white board what you are working at the time ex: barn and the phase ex: painting. It is a bit hard to see what you are doing at times. I always seem to check in when you are working on what appears to be structure on the work benches.

What size is the Red Oak layout? It appears to be smaller than a 4 x 8… Looking at the frame, perhaps it is built on a hollow core door with a layer of foam on top? I’m also assuming some kind of staging behind the backdrop with a reversing section… Looks like an interesting little layout and I am looking forward to seeing it develop.

I hope your track plan includes the branch line that goes from Red Oak to Shenandoah.

Like watching paint dry.
