Just curious… Everyone always wants to be PC now days
He’s the reason for the season!
I won’t vote because either is correct, particularly if you are a Christian. Christmas is the obvious one, but it is followed immediately by the Feast of St. Stephen the Martyr, and then the celebration of St. John the Apostle and the Evangelist. On the 28th is The Innocents. In the New Year is the Epiphany. So, these are all holidays, and the second greeting is perfectly in keeping.
Seasons Greetings is innocuous, if begging the question. That question would be, “Is there a seasonal greeting appropriate for either the summer or fall?”
To those who would receive it, Merry Christmas. To others, I wish you a good winter.
Happy holidays. Keep religion out of things
Neither.
Bah, humbug!
why oh why do we insist on raising topics that we know will result in deletion? This thread is begging for trouble.
happy ramahanakwansmas
yankee, that was the first thought that came to my head. This topic just rubs on a sore spot.
Its Christmas time the world over. If the political minded have to not offend anyone hippocrit yuppies have a problem with it. They can kiss my Fat Big Sky Blue ***
hippocrit yuppies? And we in India do not celebrate christmas, thank you.
Well…we all know why the holiday is called Christmas and what it celebrates, but we should be allowed to say “Merry Christmas” OR “Happy holidays” OR happy-whatever-holiday-YOU-happen-to-be-celebrating-at-the-time
Of course we don’t want to be offensive to reasonable folks. Now for the unreasonable folks, you’ll need to let your conscience be your guide.
It does seem that “Merry Christmas” is the greeting that the get the most criticism these days. Some folks aren’t very tolerant, I reckon. [:)]
By since I know that all of you folks are broad minded,
Merry Christmas!
no-one in india celebrates christmas ?
if i wish someone merry christmas it’s because i want to express my hope that they’re having a good holiday season , but to me this is the christmas holidays so i say merry christmas . if that happens to offend anyone i say it to , they can feel free to let me know , i can guarantee you that the next thing i say will be much more offensive
Yoshi,
We in India? Your location says, and I quote, “The Beautiful Commonwealth of Massachusetts”. Where did India come into the equation? Just curious ya know…
i know it’s obvious but this poll is WAY off topic – welcome kidstrain to the forums- i hate to say this, but there are people who dislike off-topic posts- just a little heads-up(i’m not trying to be rude)
I’m completely fine with a person walking down the street and joyously calling to me “Merry Christmas”. I’d joyously call right back “you too!”. However, I feel that in a publication like MR, it really should be happy holidays, to include all. Its almost like using slang in the real world but not in publications. On the street, Merry Christmas kinda means something else than in a publication.
That said, if I saw Merry Christmas in a magazine, I wouldn’t feel offended. I hope I didn’t offend anybody, and this will be my last post in this topic.
As I look back at the topic title, i am now seeing it was directed at the casual style, not what should be published. While I still prefer happy holidays, I’m completely fine with Merry Christmas
Pcarrell, while Born and raised in the USA, my ancestry and heritage lie back in the motherland and its tricolour. (Brit way used because thats how it is spelled in India)
MERRYCHRISTMAS!
Whenever someone says Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas,an elf dies! see www.saveanelf.com
So, Where are youi?? Are you in “The beautiful Commonwealth of Massachusetts” as your profile says or are you in India? Regardless of how hard you try, you can’t have it both ways. Although when it Comes to christmas, I can understand the comparason.
If you don’t celebrate christmas, then there really wasn’t any need for you to open this thread… Was there.? But you felt the need to make the statement that Christ, should be kept Out of Christ-mas.
Merry Christmas to all who celebrate it, and whatever moves you to the rest.
Jeff
It doesn’t have to be like that.
I’m big enough to handle your opinion if you’re big enough to handle mine.[:)]
No offense meant and none taken. I was just curious as to where that fit into the puzzle, thats all.[:D]
We cool?[8D]
AMEN to that!
Allan.
i say Merry Chrsithmas to family but to strangers I say Happy Holidays to be sure that i do not offend them
