Model Railroading and Time

for most of us who retire(2 years into it for me), stopping to do what you were paid for is usually not the only change. Many of us move very soon after, particularly if we were posted from place to place in government/military/police services. Often it is closer to parent or children, and they quickly become draws on our “free” time.

I never had much of a garden, but you should see what I have to manage now!! Plus about another 1/2 acre of lawn and shrubs. And neither stops while you are sleeping or playing trains.

Believe me, my days are just as full…and like Casey, TV has dropped by 80% for me.

It’s a matter of priorities to me. I make the best progress on the layout when I am finding time almost every night to work on it, when the kids are asleep. Sometimes I have other stuff I have to do, sometimes I am getting extra rest to fend off a cold. But I love to get down to the basement for a couple hours and make more small progress or run a few trains. It makes the next day go better if I don’t exhaust myself. So I try for balance, but also to keep hammering away.

Enjoy
