WOW, that’s nice!

I don’t think I’ve been to an all model train museum but I do know some museum with some great displays.

The Oklahoma City Kirpatrik Center Science, Air and Space Musuem has an O scale layout, several display models, and a full size Pullman car indoors. It’s next door to the zoo, but I couldn’t find a website so if anyone wants direction find the zoo. (www.okczoo.com)

Wichita has an O scale layout at the new Exploration Place. It’s called Kansas in Miniature. It modeled after prominent landmarks of Kansas. It changes periodically, they add and remove structures. Every Christmas time they put extra lights and decorations on the layout. The glass panels have info about each scene on display. It’s historical education and it’s fun. (www.exploration.org)

The Kansas City Museum is a science, human history, and natural history museum (of the KC area) and it has an HO scale layout in the basement. The museum is housed in an old, old mansion. (It’s rumored to be haunted so be sure not to hang around there after dark!) (http://www.unionstation.org/kcmuseum.cfm)

As you may see by my signature, I volunteer at a railroad museum in Brunswick Maryland. It just happens that almost the WHOLE third floor of this museum is an HO Scale model railroad layout. Of course there is also a small exibit with a good collection of MARX, LIONEL, American Flyer, and standard gauge trains, as well as a few somewhat rare HO models.

There’s an excellent model train museum in Vancouver, but I haven’t been to it. The website is www.modeltrainmuseum.ca . It’s the world’s largest collection of model trains open to the public. What’s especially great about that is that’s it’s in Canada!

This summer I went to Winnipeg and was going to go to a model train museum that had a huge HO layout that was located in an antique car museum. The place was listed in a 2003 visitor guide, but when I showed up at the address everything was gone and you’d have never known anything was there.
