Modelers License?

What is a modelers license? I’ve heard the MRR staff say they used it in issues of Model Railroader. Thanks.

NS,

Just a suggestion. You may want to give your post a more informative title. That will better advertise your need to those who might be able to answer your inquiry.

Tom

Modellors License is just another form of Artistic License. You use that to explain why you modelled a building this way instead of another way. It keeps discussions down to a dull roar as it were—[:-^]

Poetic License

This license certifies
That Ron Padgett may tell whatever lies
His heart desires
Until it expires

Read the post & the above poem popped into mind.

It is the statement that “I know it’s not to scale, but even at 1:87, a full size passenger terminal with it’s train shed will not fit on my 4’x8’ layout, so I built it non standard.” …etc.

All of which begs the question; from whom does one acquire the license? From which agent/gatekeeper/authority?

It’s capturing the essence of the object in a model without necessarily making an exact scale model. It’s the difference between a painting and a photograph. You capture what makes the building, car, engine, scene, etc. interesting and omit what detracts. It goes to the idea that model railroading is an art form.

Enjoy

from thee highest…

its freelance, artistic license. Its like me putting a big boy on a streetcar line. (now a 4-4-4-4-4-4 to get round the curves)

Or its that industrial building you shortened to fit in the modeling space, (selective compression)

Its that model SUV you placed on your 1920’s era layout… (time travel)

Its the New York Subway car you placed on your Chicago CTA line. ( equipment shortage)

Its that streetcar placed on the Great Northern electric line (fan trip)

Putting a model King Kong on your tallest building (filmmaking)

Putting a tehachapi loop in the middle of your bustling city (solving a grade problem)

AHAH!! You just lay claim to it!![:-^]

I think it’s just like getting " 'round tuit"—it’s there–[(-D]

Agent/gatekeeper/authority ?.. We don.t need no stinkin agent/gatekeeper/authority.[:D]

Who, or rather, what be this critter that can hold all three positions at the same time?[swg][:-^]

…Or modeling an GP30 for a RR that never had them,

or building an SD30,

or making a 4-10-10-4 “Large Boy”,

or modeling a splendid diesel/electric version of a GG1.

I haven’t done any of these mind, but the first on I mentioned I plan to. Yes, I have figured out how to kitbash an “SD30”, and I have also put quite a bit of thought into how a GG1 could be converted to diesel/electric.

I suspect it would be thee…and me. [:)]

And get the 4-10-10-4 around 18" without the steamer trying to straighten out the curve----

HAH! I can top that. Johnny’s Toys has (had?) a revell model a guy built of a 4-8-8-8-4.

Overworked.

I can tel you where to get a modeller’s license, go look up Northern Enterprises (Scratch that, there really is one out there [banghead]) It’s a cmpan of mine that exists soley for me to create excuses reasons for things that don’t otherwise make sense.

Modelers License:

1.To model a prototype and modify it as to your taste. (I liked the building but I didn’t like the shape of the vestibule so I applied Modelers License and changed it.)

  1. To model a prototype and modify it to your needs. ( The structure was perfect design but too big for the area so I applied Modelers license and compressed the structure)

And the one I use.

  1. An excuse used when a project doesn’t turn out the way it was suppose to. ( What do you mean it looks bad? It’s supposed to look that way. I like to apply Modelers License. That’s why I freelance.)

[:D]

Remember, most authorities require that licenses be renewed periodically. A small fee is (usually) required for this service.

And at the discretion of the authority, re-examination.

[(-D] [:D]

…and if attempting to MRR without an official MRR license the following can occur;

  1. Your Big Boy will not negotiate 15" radius.

  2. Your track will get all gummy from using your plastic wheelsets.

  3. Your brass track will corrode, requiring constant cleaning.

  4. Your Tyco 0-6-0 will not run like a swiss watch.

  5. Your Bachmann Shay will crack gears constantly.

  6. Your MRC decoders will become difficult to program.

  7. You will spend waaay to much time reading MRR forums instead of doing any actual modeling.
