Modeler's spotlight video for the week of July 16 -- Inside Cody's Office

Cody, great show! But I don’t think I can wait 2 weeks for the next episode!!! Hey whats going to be MR’s next project layout and when?

Dustin

lol love the 3D glasses where did you get them can you send me a pair I’ll pay the postage???

On your July 16th Cody’s office you gave a tip on detailing switches. The layout where you did the demonstration looked like N-Scale. Does MR also have an N scale layout at the offices. I enjoy seeing the MR HO scale layout in your weekly segments. Could you give a tour of the MR N scale layout in an upcoming segment? Since I am an N scaler I would enjoy seeing the layout diagram and some trains operating on the layout. Thanks.

Oh man Cody; 3D diesels? That’s so bad that it’s actually good!
sheesh!

Thanks for the Neolube tip. I purchased a jar with hopes of blackening the center rail on a small O-27 layout I’m building for my Granddaughters. With extra ties added I should have sort of a poor man’s Gargraves look.

Another great show. I have two questions about the “Neolube”. Does it remain liquid? Will I have to renew it every time I clean my track?

What does it take to get you to answer my e-mails?

I don’t know about reflective stripes on railcars, but the railroads started putting Scotchlite strips on locomotive frames a long time ago - at least by the 1950’s. I know Scotchlite trim was on MoPac cabooses in the 1960’s.

Cody,

I like the looks of the new N-scale project layout. When can we expect to see it in print?

Tom

hey cody, ive noticed in the recent reveiws of n scale locomotives that you have them running on an n scale layout, does this layout belong to kalmbach, or is it someone’s private layout?

Cody,

No questions, just praise from a delighted fan. Your “Inside Cody’s Office” segments are wonderful - I try to catch every one as they come out! Thank you for the dedicated effort you put in each one.

I also want to thank Senior Editor Jim Hediger for his “History” as many of his insights to railroading are absolutely wonderful! Makes me wish I’d been part of the 1 to 1 scale model railroading. Jim certainly would make an exceptional story teller as I’m sure he has collected many tales of yester-year from his experience! Thank you, Jim!

Cody,

Your recent project layout based upon N-scale Kato Unitrack looks nice. When do you expect to run the articles or show more of the layout?

Thanks.

John

Cody,

I am planning 2 five foot modules to be used in public shopws as well as inclusion in a future layout. I have not been able to find out when railroads, specifically, the Southern Pacific, began using lighted signals in their yards. I am planning a 1948 - 1950 era layout and would enjoy using prototypical signals (i.e. ground or mounted) that would indicate the clear tracks for incoming trains.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Cody,

I was wondering if you could tell me a little bit more about the high speed railways that are possibly going into affect in the Midwest. I live in Columbia, Missouri and we dont have any trains at all here. If the high speed railway will go into affect do you know where?

Thanks,
Adam

I remember reading in the magazine that the next project layout would include a lot of yellow paint, so I’m thinking either “modern” (diesel) Union Pacific (most likely) or Santa Fe blue and gold (not so likely), but those are just my thoughts, take it or leave it.

Nice show Cody - informative as well as entertaining as usual.

I just had the opportunity to attend an operating session (only my third) and a “sawtooth” maneuver was mentioned. When two trains meet and both are too long for the pasing siding. How does that work and can you perhaps demonstrate it?

Hey Cody, great show as always. Have a great vacation, I just arrived back from mine, it was great. I went to an old time hobby shop in Cedar Falls, Iowa. It was like stepping back in time, it was caboose stop hobbies, and a great place to remenis of the old days.
And great prices to, at least 20 to 30% off, some ole athearn blue box stock as well. Great selection of ole rock island publications, and other magazines, just a real neat place. Hope you have some great finds as well.

Cody,

I just had the chance to watch all of the “Beer Line” segments, Great Job!! I did have one question; how is the track secured at the end of each module so that alignment is maintained and the derailments kept to a minimum (preferably zero)? Do you use some type of PC strip and solder the rails to that, or maybe rail soldered to screw heads?

Thanks,

Todd

Hey Cody,
You present many interesting tips in your videos. Is there anyway to download or save them?

Ron

Hey Cody (Hey = Hi in SC)
As always, enjoyed this edition.

I have a couple questions. I am modeling a layout that features loading cranes and container ships. I have already scratchbuilt a container ship (36" long, 90 20ft containers above deck). I am also using deep well cars. I can’t nail down when this all started to be a factor in railroading. Do you have any idea as to when? Since I will also be building barges for a number of comodities, I need to know what the average length and width might be.

Thanks
