Modeler's Spotlight Video -- Inside Cody's Office for October 2013

That TCAX hopper has some thick detail and the wheels, think god for HO.

Nice job Cody, I would like to see a video clip of Tony Koester’s 7 minute locomotive weathering as described in the November 2013 edition. I’m very interested in this PanPastel product. I have used Tamiya Weathering sets which I’m assuming are a similar product with much success in the past, but never thought of doing a weathering job quite as quickly. I recently completed a laser cut repair shop in S-Scale from Model Monster Works (3"X4.5"), and it took me about 15-18 minutes to achieve my weathering results using the Tamiya product. Hope you can include a clip in an upcoming Cody’s Office. Thanks again.

To Bill Channell from New Hampshire:

That’s not something that’s supposed to happen. Either your computer has a virus/malware, or it’s caused by a weird setting on your computer’s firewall. Either way, it’s not our doing. Get your computer checked out. Good luck!

Question for Robert in Seattle…

What are some of the FREE track planning programs?
Do they work for ‘O’ gauge?

Most enjoyable. As always Cody you make the show. Thanks for putting the outtakes back in. ( A tip of the hat to David).

I like the new look Cody, did the missus help you with your wardrobe today? Seriously though I was unaware of the Walthers passenger cars coming in deluxe versions, with lighting and figures, until this morning, when I opened the newsletter and your column. Thanx for another infomative and entertaining show.

Cody good job thanks for the reminder on the signs !

thx 4 bringing back the outtakes cody. really enjoy them. aloha from the big island of hawaii

I can view all recent video but once they become 4-5 months old they appear scrambled . I enjoy Cody’s work but I can not view the older ones . What is up ?

I totally agree with Cody’s suggestion to make a “scale” drawing of your planned layout. It saves the frustration of not getting everything you want on the size of your layout table. At least it will give you the option to make adjustments before you start laying track.
Another great "Inside Cody’s Office.

Whoa! I am actually about to start planning and building my first layout, so thanks for the tips.

I used graph paper also when coming up with my first layout, and it worked great. I then promptly lost it. Oh well.

Another Great Cody’s Office.

As i have restricted space I drew my ideas on to graph paper to see what would fit. From my graph plans I was able to fit in more details on nscale layout. Grat show Cody keep it up thanks for all the tips.

you look way too formal in this episode, lose the tie ! :stuck_out_tongue:

If you have a computer check out XTRKCAD track layout software with most manufacturer’s products. Tutorial is provided on the site. Just search Google.

on your Cody’s Workshop: Episode 9 you gave two very good ways to take paint off of cars but I have used Brake Fuild and it works but it take some time to get all of the paint off.

My planning method is to draw everything in painstaking detail (used to be by hand, now computer). Then remove about half because it won’t fit. Then during construction remove another half the tracks because what looked good on paper doesn’t when built. The final product has only a passing resemblance to the original plan I started with.

I use a five gallon bucket and pour bottles of 91% alcohol in it and layer the bucket with all kinds of shells. Walthers easy to strip, Atlas takes about an hour, bachmann over night I have found that you do NOT want to do old Lionel or Marx shells as it will melt the entire car to a plastic heap.

Hi Cody
I was wondering what your favorite method of cleaning track is and how you clean turnouts without damaging the frog and other components. Thanks!
