Moffat tunnel west portal (MORE PICTURES)

Dear forum, this is my latest project. Moffat tunnel west portal. I made a drawing in Corel draw and sent the file to a laser cutting company. The precision of the parts are incredible. It’s not finished yet. Here are some pictures.

… a superb job which you are doing there! Keep us posted…

Than you guys. I added some more pictures of my progress. I’m waiting for squadron green putty from the US right now. I will correct the small mistakes I did. After this project is finished I will continue with the Moffat tunnel east portal. Much more complicated.

Wow… Very nice work, please keep the board posted with your progress. Tom

Great job on the west portal of the Moffat Tunnel. The east portal has a different portal which includes the ventilating system.

Keep us updated.

Any reason why you wouldn’t use the one made by Model Railstuff?

I found automotive spot putty works just as good if not better. Lot cheaper and probably available at a local auto parts store.

Look great! I love the 4 peice caps.

Perhaps this is why:

“One-Piece, Painted Plaster Casting”

They are a bit more fragile than Plasticard.

that is one gnarly portal!!! That looks sick; I love the 4-part top pieces.

What exactly is that made out of, though? Just standard styrene? or something heavier?

Electro…

I rode the current Amtrak version of the California Zephyr through the Rockies last Monday! And then the Royal Gorge Route Friday! I still have to see if I got any worthwhile pictures. All I can say is that if you can capture the feeling of that are, you are going to have one heck of a railroad! I’ll try to post any good pics I can come up with, though being on the train is probably the worst for actually taking the pictures!

I don’t like the Model Railstuff tunnel portals because they are not prototypically correct. Things like that is very important for me.

It’s made of 1 mm thick styrene.
