Monon Paint Color

What color(s) did Monon paint their early TOFC equipment? I’m building an old Penn Line 40-ft TOFC flat car kit that has a single 32’ semi trailer, circa '40s or early '50s, painted and lettered for Monon. Problem is the roof and floor of the semi trailer are unpainted metal castings with no hint of how they should be painted. The flat car is black w/ white lettering, and the sides/ends of the truck trailer are black with a large diagonal yellow stripe that says “Trailer-Maid Rail Service”. What color should the roof/floor be? All black, or was the roof painted a contrasting color? Where can I find a color picture?

Mont Sweitzer had an article about these in the old Mainline Modeller,I think.

I’ll see if I can get time to root thru’ the back issues and find it.

Steve

OK,I had a look in my back issues.

Apologies to Mr.Switzer for spelling his name wrong!

Although there are no colour photo’s in the article the roof is body colour-the article is in the June 2005 MM,and March 2006 also features Monon trailers.

To Steve: I don’t have access to Mainline Modeler, let alone back issues. Any way you (or someone else) could post a picture, or be more specific on the details, i.e. trailer body is black, therefore roof and underframe are black also? Thanks for your help, KJN

Did you know Athearn made a similar version? Your trailer is likely longer, but these might just help you
