Monorails and Rokenbok

Does anyone incorporate Rokenbok monorails or products in their layouts? I am interested in hearing from them. I know that some people incorporate older monorail toys like the Leland monorails into their layouts and I am curious if they would also include a more contemporary toy.

A friend of mine at the local train show purchased a really cool O scale monorail when he went to Disneyland (or disneyworld?). It came with a cool buckeyball style station and winds in different direction in approx 30 ft circumference. I don’t have any other details. I did a story on the club and took pictures & sent to OGR magazine, which may run the article and possibly some photos in near future.

What is a Rokenbok monorail?

eZak,
Rokenbok is a toy construction set that has remote control vehicles. The control system is similar to command control. The vehicles are close to Oscale and may be used on a layout to interact with other trains. For example there is a forklift that could be used to load cars.

One of the vehicles that might be interesting to others here is the monorail that runs on easily reconfigured beams. It can run in very tight one foot diameter curves and change elevation quickly. It would be interesting to see a layout where not only could the trains be controlled but all of the vehicles as well.

The sets and add ons are well priced compared to most new o-scale trains. They can be found at Toys Are Us as well as most good mom and pop toy stores. They are very popular among children and maybe the source of “my first train set” memories of the future. There is an interesting web forum for “serious” Rokenbok builders at http://www.rcblocks.com. And yes, most forum members are adults. Personally I think the embrace of this might be an interesting way to expand this hobby and ensure it’s future.
