Montana Rail Link SD70ACe's

Is it true that the MRL is buying SD70ACe’s from EMD? I would like to hear anything on this subject.

Yes they are they have signed up for 16 of them due at the end of this year. The only difference for the crews is the fact that they are brand new instead of second hand the AC should not be a probelm since the BNSF has haulage rights on their tracks. The only probelm area might be the shop since they will have to learn who to fix a inverter if it fails.

Im really excited to see these new locomotives in MRL Paint. It will be a great addition. Are they planning to purchase any other new locomotives?

Yeah, those will be pretty cool to see. Nice to hear they weren’t scared off by the EMD sale.

KCSR to purchase 30 new SD70ACe locomotives

Last week, the Kansas City Southern Railway agreed to purchase 30 new SD70ACe locomotives from the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors Corporation (GM) to be delivered in fourth quarter 2005.

In 2004, GM offered KCSR a 75-day, free trial of two, new SD70ACe locomotives. The same demonstration units will be returned to KCSR in January at no charge and be returned back to GM upon delivery of the new units.

The primary benefit of the new SD70ACe is that it can pull 9.6 percent more 110-ton coal cars than any of the locomotives currently in KCSR’s fleet. - KCSR News, courtesy Larry W. Grant

NEW NORFOLK SOUTHERN LOCOMOTIVES 1/19/05

Norfolk Southern has ordered 52 SD70M-2 locomotives from EMD. The sale of EMD by General Motors is not likely to affect delivery of these locomotives which are tentatively slated for delivery beginning in September. The units are expected to be numbered following the last order of SD70M’s in the 2649 to 2700 series.
